It's wierd, we had a party of like 7 or 6(all real people, no hench), so it kills me before I even see it, and then I watch my party kill it in like two seconds with out even being scratched. We were like the most unbalanced, and un-organized team ever, and we managed to pull it off.

My mesmer + henchies killed him pretty easily.
In reading some of the other posts it seems like many players who breezed through it used henchies, too.

Hehe ditto.. atleast on my second try and everyone of us (henchies) had 15% death pen. Mesmers are useful since they drain its health. The only reason why me and party filled with henchies died on our/my first try was because the mes got stuck somewhere far behind XDD

Put some ice on it
Ah, moments like these are what gaming is all about. If the ANet devs see this, they're so going to nerf it.
Has anyone else here besides me gotten their butts repeatedly handed to them by the Flame Djinn at the bottom of Sorrow's Furnace? Yeah. Well, my best friend and guildmate, Ethican Twinscar and I decided that getting torched by this boss three times was enough to merit sitting down and coming up with a proper plan to dispose of him. He was, after all, the only quest on Krak Flamewhip's list that we hadn't finished.
Taking advantage of the new refund point-less system, I respec'd my R/Me to use Illusion magic and added some drain effects like Conjure Phantasm and Phantom Pain. I then brought along Winter, as well as Flame Trap and Kindle Arrows. Ethican brought his usual lifetaps and his trusty Fiery Dragon Sword. I know, I know. Flame stuff for fighting a flame boss? Ah, Spirit of Winter, how I love thou. Did I say flame trap? I meant ice trap. And an Icy Dragon Sword. And er...Ice...led....arrows.
But alas, getting lower into the depths of Sorrow's Furnace, we began to have our doubts that this change in tactics would be effective. That's when we remembered the 'cold one' quest and the fact that said quest entails being followed by a platoon of friendly neighborhood frost golems. So what did we do? We cleared out every enemy on the path to the Djinn, and then brought along the Frost Golems to do our work for us. We even tried to get the Siege Ice Golems to follow us, but they wouldn't, not that we needed them.
Long story short, I barely had enough time to lay Winter down before the unsuspecting Flame Djinn was viciously beat down by a frantic hail of ice. It literally took less than five seconds. Words cannot describe the sense of justice (and hilarity) that filled our hearts. At this point, we couldn't possibly express enough gratitude to our frosty friends, so we did the opposite. We led them back to their original destination and crushed them into tiny blocks of ice. No better way to celebrate victory than with a cold one.

*cheers*

ROTFLMAO...that is just so good. I remember bringing a leftover Ice Golem to the Djinn the first time I took it down. Just goes to show you that a little thinking goes a long way.

You can also have Djinn chase a member back into the smashers, and let him get squished!

Nice!
I heard about someone else bringing the golems down to fight the djins, sounds like a great plan!

ArenaNet said it themselves... "Players will be left to figure things out and THINK"
If the shoe fits, wear it.
I think i might try that tomorrow when i've had some sleep. Henchmen can't do anything to hurt the Djin.
Well done for figuring that one out!

Im not sure why people are having trouble with this quest. I was with all henchies and all I had to do was pull him to my furnace gaurd friends. The entire time Dijn was aggoed was like 20 seconds.
Good idea with the ice though too bad I put them all into by beer.

Said plan doesn't work when you have to fight three Djinn for another quest though :P Enjoy the strategy while you can.

FWIW, the group I was in tried a variety of strategies with the 3 djinn last night.
We tried tanking warrior with reversal of fortune. No go there.
Tried no enchants at all with just spike heals - and the touch attack creamed us all no matter what. No time to do any heals at all.
Finally, we did the barrel thing and spamming reversal of fortune. Key to keeping team members alive was to put RoF on the weakest member of the party. At the next attack, they'd be healed.
That worked, even though at the end we were dealing with 50-60% dp.
When we were clearing out the rest of the area, we spotted a group of friendly dreges and shamen and wondered if they would have helped. Next time, we're going to grab those guys and bring them along somehow.

They won't follow. You might try to bring the djinn to them though.

you managed to do every strategy except the one that works best - get everyone to melee range (and touching) and consuming flames does 50 damage and only heals a djinn for 50. Then they become incredibly easy. Going for barrels etc. is just a recipe for DP.

actually, for the no-enchant and barrel strategies the group *was* clustering up around the djinn. Of course, we all had 40-60 % dp by then from the giant's iron ball, molten lava, and other fun mistakes. This makes even 50-60 point damage life-threatening.
Note, the fight gets harder as people die... combat res is almost a must.

I wasn't doing the pulling, but did notice that the djinn seem to have a very strong affinity for their "home" location. It seemed that they would not give chase or remain pulled.

He was really easy if u have a good mesmer (like me). All i did was interrupt all his spells with power spike/echo/leech signet. cry of frustration and with 4 interupts he was done. We all had 75% + health by the time it was done
